ASE launches the updated version of its electronic trading system and begins operating the auction mechanism to determine the closing price

On Sunday, August 23, 2026 the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) launched the upgraded version of its electronic trading system (Optiq), as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing its digital transformation and technological development of its infrastructure and electronic systems in accordance with best practices and international standards adopted in financial markets.

This launch also comes within the framework of its efforts to achieve the goals of the economic modernization vision and implement the projects included in the exchange's strategy, which aims to enhance the market's readiness to keep pace with the rapid developments in financial market technology and raise the level of reliability and operational performance of the trading environment in the national capital market.

The CEO of the Amman Stock Exchange, Mazen Wathaifi, said that the updated version includes a package of technical and functional features that will enhance the efficiency of trading operations and the quality of services provided to investors and members of the stock exchange, in line with the trends aimed at continuous modernization and the adoption of modern technical solutions that support the competitiveness and development of the market.

Wathaifi added that the ASE has begun implementing the upgraded mechanism for determining the closing prices of securities. This mechanism relies on an auction process during the pre-closing phase, allowing for broader participation from traders in determining the closing price of traded securities. This contributes to enhancing the fairness and efficiency of pricing, increasing transparency, and reducing the potential for manipulation of closing prices. He explained that the indicative equilibrium price calculated during the pre-closing phase will be adopted as the closing price for the security if the opening of the security immediately results in a trading volume of at least 1,000 Jordanian dinars. If the volume executed at this price does not reach the minimum required threshold, it will not be adopted as the closing price for that day. In this case, the closing price will be the last traded price of the security during the continuous trading phase, or its previous closing price if no trades were made.

Wathaifi also commended the efforts of all parties and stakeholders who contributed to the testing and technical trials preceding the launch, which ensured the fulfillment of all technical and operational requirements and guaranteed the system's readiness for efficient and stable operation.

He concluded by emphasizing that ASE will continue implementing its development plans and upgrading its technological infrastructure and electronic services to keep pace with the latest advancements in financial market technology, enhance the services provided to investors and traders, and solidify the exchange's position as a modern financial institution that keeps abreast of digital transformation and the rapid technological developments in global financial markets.
